Regarding the shocks, they do loosen up after some times. Keep in mind that at the beginning the motion or lifting the doors up is kind of weird but you will get used to it after several times.
Tips: Grab the bottom of the door as far back as possible to open the door and at the top of the arm rest as far back as possible to close it.
The closer you are to the front of the door (closest to the hinge) the heavier the door will seem.
